Day 2 in Milan - THE Duomo and Ciao Italy
Today is Duomo day - our only thing to do before we go to the airport. Of course, there are MANY more things in Milan to do but we only have time for this one last thing. And thank goodness, the kids are starting to look like:
After we were done eating we had to go out to queue up for entry. First we went with Matthew to the side that only goes in the church. He wasn’t climbing up to the roof.
Had a wonderful wonderfully snacky breakfast at Sapore which in the square of the Duomo.
I had ice cream espresso, Brienna a decaf, Matthew fresh orange juice - we all had cinnamon rolls which were fantastic.
The Milan Cathedral or Duomo was started some say in 1386 at the height of the gothic style. A long string of architects and engineers have worked on this project over the centuries - even Leonardo DaVinci had his hands in the design of the tower.
He got past the bag check and went in. Brienna and I headed for the rooftop queue.
That’s right we are going up there!
We got into line - Brienna was sick on lines. 🤣😂🤣
About the bag check - they have all kind of rules to gain entrance one of which included no masks?! 🤔🤬 Remember all that “shopping”? Well turns out Brienna actually had two little masks and we were rejected by this guy!
This mask + THAT guy =
You think it was bad for us, he rejected these guys too! Well Superman apparently was OK. Aquaman - weapon, Wonder Woman - exposed shoulders, Everyone else - masks.
Plan B part 1 - Since Matthew was inside and passed through pretty easily we would try our luck over there - luckily no queue and SUCCESS!
The inside was very nice.
Plan B part 2 - since Matthew did not want to go roof side, Brienna left him with our backpacks and we went back and got through.
We took the stairs up - which is the only way to ascend.
Hmmm, seems like we should be able to go higher. Yep, there is the stairs. (Brienna = 🥲 lol)
We made it!
It was hot and I took a siesta.
I actually got into trouble for that pic. Not supposed to lay down at the Duomo (did not see that on the rules - and now that we brought that up again aren’t sunglasses kind of like a mask?) - so we left before we got put in Duomo jail.
We met back up with Matthew who did a stellar job guarding the bags.
We had enough time so went back to Luini again.
And of course last minute shopping. (Me = 🥲. lol, but is it really lol? 😂)
I ordered up a car (it takes an hour to get to the airport) and away we went.
Within 5 minutes.
At the airport.
Next stop London for the night! They both look super happy, right?!
