Day 1 in Nice - Wednesday Evening - Rail Time to Beach Time
I booked the trains to Nice so we would hug the coast and we would not have to backtrack through Milan. That put us on track the Marseille St Charles.
We arrived on time and headed in for an hour layover waiting for the train to Nice.
We arrived at Le Frog.
Finally the beach which is a rocky beach.
As we got near the station we could see water.
Which was enough time foe Brienna to go shopping. 🙀
We grabbed a little snack at Carl’s Jr. Chicken strips and fries. Just needed something to tide us over until we could some
good food in Nice.
We loaded back on to a new train and set off towards Toulon and eventually Nice.
This time I had a seat partner - a very talkative Russian that stayed on the phone for at least hour.
It wasn’t easy seeing the coast but it did pop up here and again.
Near Liouquet.
Near Baie de Brandol.
Near Bastide Agay.
Near Antibes.
And we arrived.
.
Our hotel was conveniently one block from the rail station. Hotel de Berne.
We decided to take the elevator up to our room on the 5th floor. Tight squeeze.
Rooms are huge but oddly shaped and definitely quirky.
And the toilet paper is pink.
But more importantly what is this anorexic limbless robot thing I found behind the tv?
We were hungry so I booked us reservations at Le Frog for dinner - they liked the name.
More on that later….So, we walked down Avenue Jean Medicin which was very good with little parks and shopping going into old Nice and towards the beach. We stopped at the Basilique Notre Dame.
Next we ran into this naked guy standing in the middle of the Fountaine du Soliel. He said his name was Apollo.
For appetizers we had escargot, frog legs ((kid’s choice), and a cheese platter.
It is a thong so you can grab the snail and they don’t snail away. Don’t worry, they aren’t alive. They loved the snails and frog legs (tastes like chicken), but the cheese plate had mixed reviews (it was actually great).
Main course: D - lobster prawn and mussel linguine, B - salmon poke bowl (shocker), M - john dory fish on rice.
We proceeded down to the beach as the sun was fading. Saw this giant metal structure.
